About
Who we are
We are designers and makers of cozy, heirloom children's toys based in the woods of Western, MA. These hand-crafted, nostalgic toys are designed to live with children throughout their lives. They inspire us to treat them with love and care. We explore the cross-section of traditional crafting techniques and contemporary design.
Our toys are made in small batches released throughout the year. We work with limited quantities of all natural materials. These are often deadstock or hand dyed fabrics and as a result our toys are not over produced. This style of slow heirloom production allows us to create unique collectable objects. Our shelves here are constantly changing.
Mission
Our toys are ethically made in the US with all natural materials for families who want to move away from plastic and overconsumption. We want to create durable pieces that inspire us to care for and repair them throughout their lives. We will repair your toys for you or help you learn to repair them yourself. Learn more about this on our care & repair page.
All toys from all businesses are made by hand--Made Cozy's toys are made ethically and sustainably by hand.
Our start
Haviland and Oliver met as design students at Hampshire College. Wanting to find a way to design products that depart from an increasingly disposable mindset, we drew inspiration from the relationships children have with their favorite stuffed animals that get washed when dirty, mended when torn, and kept safe to be passed down. We found this was because these toys gave us a cozy feeling.
We wanted the furniture and home goods we made to bring that same feeling into adults' lives. We aimed for our designs to be beautiful and long lasting but also to give you that desire to care for and keep them because, after-all, they make you feel cozy.
After graduating, Haviland ran a local reupholstery business for 6 years under the same name (Made:Cozy). In 2021, she fully transitioned the business into an online shop where she had the opportunity to showcase the sculptural side of furniture by designing and making a line of pieces that expand on their original idea for the business. This business incorporated all sorts of homegoods-- kitchen tools, furniture, lamps, and children's toys.
In 2025, Made Cozy shifted focus onto just one of the many things they liked designing- children's toys. They continue to make and sell many of their old designs (found in our archive) but keep their main focus on children's objects.
