I made furniture again but this time for your teddy bear

Ever since I made the transition from home-goods designer to toy designer I have been dreaming of ways to get back into the woodshop and back to making furniture in a way that felt like it fit the business. So finally, this summer I have been finding the time to get back into the woodshop to dust off all of our tools. 

I knew I wanted to make something for our daughter's (and customers') favorite toys, Berry the Floppy Teddy. I've been thinking a lot about world building with our toys and how toy accessories and toy furniture can be useful tools for kids to use their imagination when playing with their toys and creating stories for them.

Because I want our toys to be long lasting both in durability and in the sense that they could be enjoyed throughout life, I thought it would be so fun to design a handmade hardwood rocking chair. This chair can be played with but it also can sit on your fireplace mantle, or desk later in life.

So here we have it: A real wooden chair made one at a time with mortise and tenon joinery. While these solid cherry rocking chairs were designed for our favorite Floppy Teddy Bears they work well with most 10" tall toys (or smaller). They're designed to balance your toy at a comfortable reclined position and rock gently back and forth.  

They are made right here in the woods of Western MA in our dusty woodshop, hand sanded smooth, and finished with a non-toxic, all natural hardwax-oil finish.

Because they are made of real wood the grain and color of each piece varies.

Ps. Speaking of world building-- it's about time I pull out our dollhouse and start decorating for fall. I also have plans for making mini loafs of bread and apple pies for the toys in there. Stay tuned.
